Lula to Intensify Campaign Against Bolsonaro in Brazil’s Election Runoff

by admin477351

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has pledged to ramp up his campaign efforts after trailing Flávio Bolsonaro in the first round of the presidential election. With nearly all ballots counted, Bolsonaro secured approximately 47% of the vote, while Lula garnered 45%. The two candidates are set to compete in a runoff on October 25.

Lula characterized the initial election outcome as unexpected and is calling for increased voter turnout in the runoff, particularly targeting the more than 30 million Brazilians who abstained from voting in the first round. Emphasizing his political experience, Lula criticized Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, over allegations related to organized crime and corruption.

The president has outlined a focused agenda for the runoff campaign, prioritizing education, research, technology, and industrial development. He has promised continued investment in universities, federal institutes, and secondary education, along with expanding the Pé-de-Meia program to combat school dropout rates.

The upcoming campaign is anticipated to center on attracting supporters of candidates eliminated in the first round, as well as engaging those who did not participate in the initial voting. As Lula intensifies his efforts, he hopes to convince abstaining voters of the importance of their participation in shaping Brazil’s future.
